An American Opportunity
Hey there MindSumo Blog readers! Today we’re excited to announce the first of several new challenges which will be posted to MindSumo over the coming weeks. We’re hoping you’ll use some of your free time over the holidays to curl up next to the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate, a laptop, and a good old fashioned challenge!
The first challenge to be launched will go live later today, and will a great opportunity for the creative thinkers out there. We will be asking our solvers to come up with treatments (plot summaries with character description) for a one act play or short film that they would consider to be “Americana”. This challenge asks our users to go a little further “outside the box”, so we’re looking forward to some original and imaginative solutions.
So what do you think makes a work of fiction stereotypically American? Is the story of a tough kid growing up playing pickup basketball in the parks of New York City more indicative of our culture than the tale of a young girl working on a farm in rural Montana? Our country is known for it’s diversity and varying subcultures, is there one more representative of our country as whole than any others? Help decide what American really means in this weeks challenge.
