Bill Nye’s Latest Experiement
Earlier this week on the MindSumo Facebook page we wished a happy birthday to Bill Nye. Although he no longer hosts his television show, the classic bit of 90s nostalgia titled “Bill Nye The Science Guy”, he still has a passion for educating the world about the wonders of science. Bill has moved on from exemplifying how quicksand works and illustrating the size and scale of the sun to teaching kids and adults alike through more modern technologies.
In teaming up with developer Gamedesk, Bill is fundraising through Kickstarter for a new educational game for iPad. The game, titled AERO, will feature an albatross flying around a series of islands while attempting to pass through rings and completing other standard gaming activities. The catch is that the game will emphasize the physics involved with flight, and educate players about the properties of aerodynamics.
The game will include several features, among them lessons on lift, drag, thrust, constant and terminal velocity, gravity, banking and turning. By combining these scientific elements with gameplay mechanics such as safe landing challenges, flying through uplifting cumulus clouds to collect special rewards, and diving into the water to hunt for fish, Nye and Gamedesk hope to create a game that is as informative as it is fun to play.
The only hindrance preventing this amazing game from allowing people everywhere to understand what’s going on when the plane they’re flying in takes off or descends is a lack of funding. This is a great opportunity to progress the future of education, so consider taking some time to kick in 5 bucks or just share a link to The Kickstarter Page, Bill will be thankful.
