Solving Holiday Boredom
What are your plans for this winter break? A trip to the snow for some skiing and boarding? Curling up with a few good books on the couch at home? Maybe just re-uniting with old friends and catching The Hobbit or Jack Reacher on the big screen? Whatever you’re looking forward to during your time off, we’re hoping MindSumo makes the list!
MindSumo currently has an incredible variety of challenges for every type of solver out there. Most recently we’ve added another installment to our collection of challenges from the Smithsonian Institute. This one is for the scientific minds out there and asks students to propose a method to break the ozone depletion cycle. This wide open challenge could solved using legislation to improve public transportation or methods to reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases through chemical means.
We will also be accepting 19 more treatments for a one act play or short film that typifies America. A treatment consists of a plot summary and list of characters allowing solvers to put forth an idea for a narrative whether they are a story-telling type of writer or not. We want students of all academic backgrounds working on this challenge to allow for the most variety in the Americana created.
There is still room for six more submissions for our challenge to combat the spread of disease through statistical analysis. One could analyze data about vaccinations to see which age groups are the most important to vaccinate or even create a system to detect what factors make a specific area prone to infectious diseases to focus preventative efforts there.
Lastly we are still accepting a few more submissions to our only MindSumo School exclusive challenge on the site. Social media junkies should be cuing up to help Facebook decide how to best leverage their social search tools. Perhaps a sports app could use social search to display your social networks comments about your favorite team?
At MindSumo we love reading the incredible solutions that are delivered on a daily basis. We’re passionate about getting students the recognition they deserve for their original ideas, but we can’t do it unless you are all busy posting. So whether you’re resting in the ski lodge with comically-large cast around your your leg or just browsing the web before going to bed, click on over to MindSumo and submit some ideas so they can be heard!
