Everyone knows it’s tough to find a job after college. Unemployment rates for Millennials are extremely high right now. Even with the increase in hires for seasonal jobs (everyone knows Target is about three times as crowded as normal during December), 10.9 percent of those ages 18 to 29 are currently unemployed, and that number jumps to over 16 percent when you account for labor participation rate.
This is the problem we at MindSumo are seeking to alleviate. We know that young adults, especially those who are recently graduated, are bright, motivated and have something to prove. Unfortunately today’s “modern” means of resumes, LinkedIn pages, and in-person yet often impersonal interviews are not the best means of showing how capable one can be. Simply put, proving you have something to prove isn’t very easy to prove to a potential employer.
At MindSumo we are leading the efforts to get more Millennials employed through a variety of means. Our Challenges allow students to put their skills on display on their own time while they’re still in school, and winning a prize for your work is kind of like having a job, right? A challenge solution gives companies the opportunity to see how a student works and thinks, and can give a much more accurate representation of how a potential hire might fill a role than a look at a resume or brief conversation.
We’re also in the midst of implementing our vast network of Virtual Career Fair Booths or VCFBs, which serve as a virtual location where students can connect with companies 24/7. Companies pay thousands each years to set up booths at career fairs all over the nation. At these crowded events it can be difficult to really put yourself out there while jostling with dozens of other students with similar qualification. The VCFB will allow for students and employers alike to connect at their own convenience. If you haven’t signed up already, then make an account today.
